Poonch (J&K): Security forces foiled a suspected cross-border attempt to arm terror networks after a Pakistani drone dropped a bag containing an improvised explosive device (IED), ammunition and suspected narcotics near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector.
Officials said the unmanned aerial vehicle breached Indian airspace on Thursday and hovered for over five minutes before releasing the payload near Rangar Nallah and the Poonch River in the Chakkan Da Bagh area—an LoC stretch under constant surveillance.

Troops of the Indian Army recovered the bag during routine domination of forward areas. Preliminary checks revealed an IED, live ammunition and contraband believed to be intended for terror operatives operating in the region.
Following the recovery, the Army, along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, cordoned off the area and launched an extensive search to rule out additional drops or local accomplices.
Security agencies say drone-based smuggling of weapons and drugs has emerged as a persistent challenge along the LoC and the International Border, with multiple interceptions reported in recent years across Poonch, Akhnoor and Samba. Forces remain on high alert to counter such aerial infiltration attempts.
