New Delhi: Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin has said India is uniquely placed to play a meaningful mediating role in the long-running Israel–Palestine conflict, citing New Delhi’s strong ties with both sides and its consistent support for international law and a two-state solution.
Speaking during her visit to the Indian capital ahead of the India–Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Shahin described India as “a friend of both Palestinians and Israelis” and an important global voice that can help bring the parties back to the negotiating table.

She said India’s growing diplomatic influence, economic strength and humanitarian outreach make it a credible bridge-builder at a time when the region is facing one of its gravest humanitarian crises. According to Shahin, India’s balanced approach and long-standing engagement with West Asia give it the moral and political standing to encourage dialogue and confidence-building between the two sides.
The Palestinian minister also urged India to expand its humanitarian assistance, particularly for Gaza’s reconstruction, and to continue supporting relief agencies working on the ground. She stressed that humanitarian aid and political dialogue must go hand in hand to achieve a lasting peace.
Shahin reaffirmed Palestine’s commitment to a negotiated settlement based on international law and the two-state framework, and said global actors like India can play a constructive role in ensuring that diplomacy is revived.
Her remarks come as New Delhi continues to strengthen relations across West Asia, positioning itself as a key partner for stability, development and peace in the region.
