New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Tuesday revoked the suspension of eight opposition Members of Parliament after the House unanimously adopted a motion seeking to end their suspension with immediate effect.
The motion was moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, proposing that the suspension imposed on the MPs during the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament be withdrawn. The House approved the motion without opposition, paving the way for the members to resume participation in parliamentary proceedings.

Speaker Urges Members to Uphold Parliamentary Decorum
Announcing the decision, Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, said that during a meeting of floor leaders held on Monday, representatives of all parties reaffirmed their commitment to maintain the dignity, traditions, and decorum of Parliament.
He urged MPs to avoid displaying placards, banners, or AI-generated images and videos within the Parliament complex, stressing the need to preserve the dignity of the House during debates and protests.

Government Calls for Responsible Debate
Speaking in the House, Kiren Rijiju said the government remains open to constructive engagement with the opposition and is ready for discussions on important issues if members cooperate in maintaining order in the House.
The motion came after Congress Chief Whip K Suresh expressed regret over what he described as an “inadvertent indiscretion” by some opposition members. He assured the House that the opposition was committed to ensuring the smooth functioning of Parliament and appealed for the suspension to be withdrawn.
The request was supported by Dharmendra Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and Supriya Sule of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction), who endorsed the appeal for restoring normal parliamentary functioning.
Union Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh also emphasized the importance of preserving parliamentary traditions and ensuring that the House runs smoothly.
Background of the Suspension
The eight opposition MPs had been suspended on February 3 for the remainder of the Budget Session following unruly conduct in the House during heated protests. Their suspension had sparked criticism from opposition parties and led to repeated disruptions in parliamentary proceedings.
With the suspension now revoked through a consensus motion, the Lok Sabha is expected to resume its legislative business with the participation of all parties.
