Pathankot: In a major counter-espionage breakthrough, the Punjab Police have uncovered a suspected spy network in Pathankot and arrested a man accused of secretly sharing sensitive information about Indian Army and paramilitary movements with handlers based in Pakistan.
The arrested accused has been identified as Baljit Singh alias Bittu, a resident of Chakk Dhariwal village in Pathankot district.
According to investigators, Baljit Singh allegedly installed a CCTV camera at a shop near a bridge along the strategically important Pathankot-Jammu stretch of National Highway-44. Police suspect the camera was being used to monitor the movement of security forces and military convoys in the area.

Officials said the live surveillance footage was electronically transmitted to operatives located in Pakistan and other foreign locations.
Senior police officer Daljinder Singh Dhillon told media that the accused admitted to the espionage activities during interrogation.
Sharing details of the operation on X, Pathankot Police confirmed the recovery of a CCTV camera and an internet WiFi router allegedly used in the network.
Calling it a “major breakthrough” linked to national security, the police said one accused had been arrested for installing a CCTV system whose live feed was allegedly shared with anti-national elements.
“Pathankot Police remains committed to safeguarding national security and taking strict action against anti-national activities,” the department said.
Police have registered a case against four individuals in connection with the alleged espionage module. Besides Baljit Singh, the other accused have been identified as Vikramjit Singh alias Vikka, Balwinder Singh alias Vicky, and Taranpreet Singh alias Tannu.
Raids are currently underway to trace and arrest the remaining accused, officials said.
