Ranchi: Jharkhand’s cricketing landscape has a new star. Kumari Palak, a rising talent from Ranchi, has scripted history by becoming the first female cricketer from the Ranchi District Cricket Association (RDCA) to earn a place in the Indian Women’s U-19 team.

The young batter has been named in India’s squad for the upcoming ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka, marking a breakthrough moment not only for her career but also for women’s cricket in Jharkhand.

Palak’s journey to the national team is a story of grit, perseverance and relentless hard work. Originally from Deoghar and raised in Ranchi, she honed her skills at the Ormanjhi Cricket Club under the guidance of coach Pankshit Kumar Mahto, who identified her talent early and helped shape her game.

Years of consistent performances in district and state tournaments eventually opened the doors to the national stage, turning a long-cherished dream into reality.

The achievement has sparked celebrations across the state, with the RDCA and Jharkhand State Cricket Association hailing her selection as a watershed moment for women’s cricket. RDCA officials said Palak’s rise proves that Jharkhand’s daughters can compete with the best in the country.

Behind the success story stands her mother, Sangeeta Bhagat, a police officer posted at the Ranchi Women’s Police Station, whose unwavering support helped her daughter chase her ambitions despite numerous challenges.

As Palak prepares to don the India jersey, Jharkhand celebrates a trailblazer whose journey from local grounds to the national team is set to inspire countless young girls to dream bigger and aim higher.
