New Delhi: In a major boost to India’s defence capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully demonstrated a range of advanced missile technologies, showcasing the country’s growing ability to counter sophisticated aerial and maritime threats.
Over June 10 and 11, DRDO conducted three consecutive flight tests that validated a multi-layered Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system and successfully carried out the maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range (NASM-MR). The achievements mark a significant milestone in India’s pursuit of cutting-edge indigenous defence technologies.

India Strengthens Multi-Layered Missile Defence
The BMD trials saw interceptor missiles successfully track, engage, and destroy their designated targets, demonstrating the effectiveness of India’s layered defence architecture against long-range ballistic missile threats. Developed using advanced technologies, the system is designed to address evolving missile challenges and protect critical national assets.
The successful tests place India among a select group of nations possessing the capability to intercept and neutralize advanced ballistic missile threats, including those approaching intercontinental ranges.
Maiden Success for Naval Anti-Ship Missile
In another major breakthrough, DRDO successfully conducted the first flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range (NASM-MR). The missile is designed to enhance the Indian Navy’s ability to strike hostile warships at medium ranges, further strengthening India’s maritime deterrence and combat readiness.
The successful debut of the missile highlights the growing maturity of India’s indigenous missile development programme and its expanding naval warfare capabilities.
Rajnath Singh Congratulates Scientists
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO scientists, engineers, and industry partners for the successful demonstrations, describing them as a significant contribution to India’s defence preparedness and technological self-reliance.
DRDO Chairman and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D, Rajesh Kumar Singh closely monitored the trials and praised the collaborative efforts of DRDO teams and industry stakeholders in achieving the milestone.
The back-to-back successes underscore India’s rapid progress in developing advanced missile systems and reinforce its position as an emerging leader in indigenous defence innovation and strategic deterrence.
