Kiriburu: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) Chairman and Managing Director Dr. A.K. Panda reviewed mining operations across the company’s Jharkhand Group of Mines (JGOM) and Odisha Group of Mines (OGOM), stressing that safety, higher production, and technological innovation will be key to achieving SAIL’s ambitious expansion targets.
During his visit, Dr. Panda inspected the Barsua, Taldih, Kalta, Bolani, Gua, Kiriburu, and Meghahatuburu iron ore mines, where he interacted with employees and appreciated their commitment to operational excellence. He reiterated that safety must remain the foremost priority in every mining activity.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Learning and Development Centre in Kiriburu, Dr. Panda assessed progress on mine development, production enhancement, project implementation, digital transformation, and operational efficiency. He reaffirmed SAIL’s target of expanding crude steel production capacity to 35 million tonnes by 2030-31, supported by an annual iron ore output of 100 million tonnes from its captive mines.
He emphasized that efficient mining operations are vital for ensuring uninterrupted raw material supply, improving cost competitiveness, and driving the company’s long-term growth. Dr. Panda also called for greater adoption of digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to boost productivity, strengthen safety standards, and promote sustainable mining practices.
The visit underscored SAIL’s commitment to building a safe, technology-driven, and future-ready mining ecosystem while supporting the nation’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
