Bihar Govt. Presents Rs 3.16 Lakh Crore Budget for 2025-26 with Focus on Education and Welfare

Patna: In the Bihar Legislative Assembly today, Finance Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary presented the state budget for the financial year 2025-26, totaling Rs 3,16,895 crore. This represents an increase of Rs 38,169 crore from the previous year. The budget allocates Rs 61,000 crore to education, the highest expenditure in this year’s budget.

Chaudhary outlined a revenue target of Rs 2,60,000 crore for the coming year, marking an increase of Rs 34,033 crore. Key allocations include Rs 60,954 crore for education, Rs 20,335 crore for health, and Rs 16,193 crore for rural development. Notable initiatives include establishing Mahila Haat in Patna, setting up Kanya Vivah Mandaps in all panchayats, and opening one degree college in 358 blocks over time.

The budget also includes Rs 1,289 crore for modernizing 21 market committees. The state government has doubled scholarships for backward and extremely backward class students, with Rs 875 crore allocated to support their education. Additionally, the pre-matric scholarship for SC and ST students has been doubled, with a budget provision of Rs 260 crore. The Chief Minister’s SC-ST hostel grant has also been increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 to support students living in hostels.
