Meanwhile, the ruling Sikkim Karantikari Morcha (SKM) has retained power in Sikkim with a resounding win in the Himalayan state’s assembly polls.
The results of the assembly elections, which were held on Sunday, come just two days before the announcement of the Lok Sabha polls results.
In Arunachal Pradesh, apart from BJP’s landslide victory, the National People’s Party (NPP) secured five seats, while the Congress managed to win one seat. The remaining seats were claimed by other parties.
Following the election outcome, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu tendered his resignation along with the Council of Ministers. The Governor, Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.), has accepted the resignation and requested Khandu and his Council of Ministers to continue until the formation of the new government.
Under Article 174 (2) (b) of the Indian Constitution, the Governor has also approved the Cabinet’s recommendation to dissolve the Seventh State Assembly with immediate effect. Expressing appreciation for Khandu’s administration, the Governor commended his successful management of the state during his tenure as Chief Minister.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aiming for a historic third term, expressed gratitude to the people of Arunachal Pradesh for reposing their faith in the BJP yet again. He pledged to work with greater vigor for the state’s development.
In Sikkim, the Sikkim Karantikari Morcha (SKM) secured a landslide victory, winning 31 out of 32 Assembly seats. The opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) managed to secure only one seat, marking a significant decline from its performance in the 2019 polls.
