BSL bags Kalinga Environmental Excellence Award

Bokaro: Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) has been awarded the prestigious Kalinga Environmental Excellence Award in the category of “Environmental Excellence.”

The award was presented by Rajan Prasad, Executive Director (Personnel & Administration and Additional Charge Operations), to Birendra Kumar Tiwari, Director-in-Charge of Bokaro Steel Plant, on June 10th during a program held in the conference room of the Executive Director (Operations).

The ceremony was attended by the plant’s Chief General Managers and senior executives. The award was initially conferred by the Institute of Quality, Bhubaneswar, during an event on June 8, 2024.

On May 15, 2024, Nitesh Ranjan, Assistant General Manager (Environment), delivered a presentation to the jury members of the Environmental Protection and Sustainability (ECS) Department of Public Enterprises, Hyderabad, and the State Pollution Control Board, Odisha. General Manager (Environment), N.P. Srivastava, provided precise answers to all jury questions.

The judges were particularly impressed by Bokaro Steel Plant’s proactive environmental initiatives and efforts to adopt more sustainable steel manufacturing technologies. Under the guidance of Birendra Kumar Tiwari, BSL’s Director-in-Charge, the company has integrated operational excellence and sustainability across multiple sectors through the use of circular economy principles, energy efficiency, and environmental preservation.

Notably, over the past three financial years, BSL has achieved a 12.07% reduction in particulate matter emissions and a 77.3% decrease in specific effluent discharge. The plant has also attained 100% solid waste utilization in the fiscal years 2022-23 and 2023-24.
