New Delhi: In a move aimed at safeguarding national security and operational integrity, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a strict advisory to all media outlets, urging them to refrain from broadcasting live coverage of anti-terrorist operations or movements of security forces.
The advisory applies to television channels, digital media platforms, and individual content creators, warning that premature or unverified reporting—especially based on anonymous sources—can endanger both the success of operations and the lives of personnel involved.
Citing past incidents such as the Kargil War, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, and the Kandahar hijacking, the Ministry emphasized how unrestricted media coverage in such situations had inadvertently compromised national interests.
The advisory also reinforced provisions under the Cable Television Network (Amendment) Rules, which clearly prohibit the live broadcast of any anti-terror operation by security forces.
The government has called for responsible journalism and reminded media professionals of their critical role in protecting national security, urging them to prioritize safety and operational confidentiality over sensational reporting.
