JNS: In an effort to equip students with the information and skills needed to resist digital threats, Delhi Public School (DPS) Bokaro hosted an informative workshop titled “Cybercrime – A Review of the Evidence, How Police Investigates” on its campus on Tuesday.
Deepak Kumar, a Cyber Security Expert and Digital Intelligence Consultant who rushed from Delhi, was the guest speaker. Addressing the workshop, he emphasized the critical need for cybersecurity awareness in today’s digital age.
During his captivating presentation, Deepak shared real-life instances illustrating how young individuals can fall victim to cyber traps. He shed light on the multifaceted realm of cybercrime, delving into its various forms, repercussions, and preventive measures. Students were introduced to concepts such as cyberbullying and online fraud, equipping them with essential knowledge to protect themselves in the digital realm.
Deepak emphasized the growing challenge posed by cybercrime in contemporary society. He provided a comprehensive overview of the precautions individuals should take when using social media platforms.
He said, that while social sites offer a platform for self-expression and sharing experiences, their misuse is inappropriate and can have severe consequences.
Furthermore, Deepak enlightened the audience about the proactive actions law enforcement agencies took in cases involving fraudulent activities such as creating fake social media accounts, tarnishing someone’s image, or other forms of deception.
He stressed that deleting data from a device does not guarantee anonymity, as police can retrieve complete data, both current and historical, using IP addresses and phone numbers captured by social sites.
He also delivered detailed guidance on safeguarding Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram accounts from hacking attempts and discussed measures to take in the event of a successful breach. He cautioned against clicking on unfamiliar links and urged users to be vigilant about app permissions, as some have access to location data, contacts, and photo galleries.
In a bid to protect personal privacy, he highlighted the importance of refraining from sharing personal images with anyone online. Deepak also emphasised strong password creation, regular software updates, and responsible online conduct as vital tools for safeguarding one’s digital identity.
Dr. A. S. Gangwar, Principal of DPS Bokaro, emphasized equipping young minds with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital landscape securely. He praised the workshop for its role in empowering students to be responsible and informed digital citizens.
