—Allow tri-colour to be flown day and night
JNS: The Flag Code of India has been amended by the government, and allows the national tricolour to be flown in public spaces as well as on private homes and other buildings, regardless of the time of day or night. Earlier, there was a clause that said the flag, when shown in the open, could be flown from sunrise to sunset, or as close to those times as practicable.
In order to maintain the honour and dignity of the national flag, it is now permissible for any member of the general public, any private organisation, or any educational institution to fly the flag on any day or occasion, regardless of whether or not the event is ceremonial. This decision was made in advance of India’s Independence Day, which will be celebrated in 75 years.
The Flag Code of India was earlier amended on 30 December 2021, allowing the use of polyester, apart from cotton, wool, silk and khadi for making hand-spun, hand-woven and machine-made flags.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon people to strengthen the Har Ghar Tiranga Movement as the nation is marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav this year. He asked people to hoist the Tricolour or display it in their homes between 13 to 15 August.
As the nation is commemorating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav this year, PM said, “This Har Ghar Tiranga movement will improve our bond with the national flag.”
