Dhanbad: IIT-ISM Dhanbad will host a delegation of 50 young participants from Uttarakhand as part of the Yuva Sangam initiative. The program, organized by the Ministry of Education under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat mission, aims to foster cultural exchange between the youth of different states. The event will start on January 16, 2025, and will last for five days, giving the participants a chance to explore Jharkhand’s culture, landscapes, and industrial achievements.
The delegation consists of 25 male and 25 female participants, who will be accompanied by a five-member team from IIT Roorkee, led by Professor Sunil Krishna, along with four coordinators.
The official welcome ceremony will take place at 4 PM on January 16 at the Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre in IIT-ISM Dhanbad. The ceremony will be attended by prominent figures such as Professor Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT-ISM, Professor MK Singh, Dean of Academics, SK Gupta, Dean of Students Welfare, and Professor Sanjeev Anand Sahu, Jharkhand’s State Nodal Officer for Yuva Sangam.
The program will include several visits and activities. On January 17 and 18, the delegation will explore Ranchi, visiting key sites such as the Raj Bhavan, JHARCRAFT Centre, and the Pahadi Temple. On January 19, they will return to IIT-ISM Dhanbad to learn about industrial missions and visit the Longwall Gallery, along with villages adopted by the Centre of Societal Mission (CSM). The following day, January 20, will feature tours of Dhanbad’s coal mines, including the Lodna and Moonidih coal mines operated by BCCL. On the final day, January 21, the delegation will visit the Hydro Power Project of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The cultural exchange will conclude with a valedictory session at IIT-ISM Dhanbad before the group returns to Roorkee.
This cultural exchange is a part of an ongoing effort by IIT-ISM Dhanbad and IIT Roorkee to strengthen ties between the youth of Jharkhand and Uttarakhand. Previously, a group of 43 youth from Jharkhand visited Uttarakhand from November 30 to December 4, 2024, promoting unity and mutual understanding. Professor Sanjeev Anand Sahu emphasized that the Yuva Sangam initiative reflects the vision of fostering national integration and showcasing India’s cultural and industrial diversity to the younger generation.
