Justice N V Ramana appointed as Chief Justice of India

JNS: President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Justice N V Ramana as the 48th Chief Justice of India. He will take oath on 24 April.

Accepting the recommendation made by the outgoing CJI SA Bobde Ramana was appointed as Chief Justice; will have a term till 26 August 2022.

On 10 February 1983, Justice Ramana became an advocate. He was elevated as a permanent Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on 27 June 2000 and was Acting Chief Justice of AP HC from 10 March 2013 to 20 May 2013.

Before his elevation to the Supreme Court on 17 February 2014, Justice Ramana was the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.

He was born in an agricultural family in Andhra Pradesh.
