New Delhi: The third phase of the Lok Sabha elections concluded today with approximately 62 percent of the electorate turning out to vote by 8:30 PM. This phase saw 93 Lok Sabha seats from ten states and one Union Territory go to the polls.
Despite the heat wave conditions in several parts of the country, polling remained largely peaceful, with voters from all sections of society participating enthusiastically.
According to reports, Assam recorded a voter turnout of 75.30 percent, Bihar 56.55 percent, Chhattisgarh 67.16 percent, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu 65.23 percent, Goa 74.47 percent, Gujarat 56.88 percent, Karnataka 68.71 percent, Madhya Pradesh 63.36 percent, Maharashtra 55.21 percent, Uttar Pradesh 57.34 percent, and West Bengal 73.93 percent.
The Election Commission confirmed that voting took place for 25 seats in Gujarat, 14 seats in Karnataka, 11 seats in Maharashtra, 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh, nine seats in Madhya Pradesh, seven seats in Chhattisgarh, five seats in Bihar, four seats each in Assam and West Bengal, and two seats each in Goa and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
With the conclusion of the third phase, polling has now been completed in 20 states and Union Territories, covering 283 Parliamentary Constituencies for the General Elections 2024. A total of 1331 candidates were in the electoral fray in this phase.
Several prominent candidates, including senior BJP leaders Amit Shah, Mansukh Mandaviya, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Pralhad Joshi, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Basavaraj Bommai, as well as Congress leader Digvijay Singh, Samajwadi Party leader Dimple Yadav, and NCP leader Supriya Sule had their fate sealed in the EVMs in this phase.
In a noteworthy development, 75 international delegates from 23 countries visited polling stations in six states to witness the poll process. They appreciated the magnitude, transparency, and the festive mood of the voters.
The three phases of polling covered the entire northeastern part of the country, as well as Left Wing Extremism-affected and vulnerable areas in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, all of which were conducted smoothly and peacefully.
