Nirma University Wins National Moot Court Competition at NUSRL Ranchi; Consumer Law Chair Established

Ranchi: The National Moot Court Competition, organized by the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, under the National Consumer Protection Law, concluded today with Nirma University, Ahmedabad, emerging as the winner. The event, held in the presence of Shri Santosh Gangwar, the Governor of Jharkhand, also saw Delhi University’s team securing second place.

A key highlight of the event was the signing of an agreement between Anupam Mishra, Joint Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, and NUSRL representatives. The agreement established a Chair on Consumer Law at NUSRL, aimed at advancing research and policy in the field of consumer law.

During the competition, Nirma University’s team, consisting of Bhumika Agarwal, Agam Bakliwal, and Som Sharma, was awarded the first prize, with Bhumika Agarwal being recognized as the ‘Best Speaker.’ Delhi University Law Centre-2’s team—Paru Bhardwaj, Madhav Sharma, and Neha Shanbag—secured the second position.

The event began with a welcome address by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Professor Ashok R. Patil, who thanked the Governor for attending and highlighted the importance of consumer law. Governor Gangwar, drawing from his personal experiences in law and politics, emphasized the need for awareness about consumer protection laws and the role of law in ensuring justice for common people. He encouraged students to build their respect and reputation in the legal profession.

The competition, organized by NUSRL’s Department of Consumer Research and Policy in collaboration with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, saw participation from 20 top law schools across the country. The event was coordinated by Teaching Assistant Anushtha Saxena, with Assistant Professors Soni Bhola and Ravindra Kumar Pathak handling the introductions and vote of thanks.
