Pakistan Digging Deep Cross-LoC Tunnels for Infiltration, Say Indian Security Agencies
New Delhi: Indian security forces have raised serious concerns over the construction of deep underground tunnels by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC), allegedly designed to infiltrate terrorists and potentially deploy troops during a future armed conflict.
According to a report by The Hindustan Times, citing top intelligence and security sources, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Army have been tasked with investigating whether Pakistan has successfully dug extensive tunnels beneath frontline trenches to enable covert cross-border movements.
Meanwhile, many local media also reported, “a 150-m tunnel constructed along the International Border (IB) to facilitate infiltration of terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan was detected by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district on Wednesday, officials said.
This is the third tunnel unearthed by alert border guards along the IB in the twin districts of Samba and Kathua in Jammu region over the past six months and ninth in the past decade.”
Following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 civilians dead, Indian forces were reportedly directed to intensify surveillance and explore the possibility of such subterranean infiltration routes.
A senior officer, speaking to the publication on condition of anonymity, confirmed, “Post the Pahalgam incident, we were instructed to verify if Pakistan has created deep tunnel networks that could facilitate not just terrorist infiltration but also movement of troops during a conflict.”
The report further reveals that Pakistan has deployed ex-servicemen near the border areas, ostensibly to aid in tunnel construction and act as first responders in case of escalation. Intelligence assessments suggest this is part of a broader tactical preparation by Pakistan amid rising tensions with India.
Security agencies are now conducting detailed ground checks, including the use of specialized detection equipment, to identify any hidden infrastructure along vulnerable stretches of the LoC.
