Jammu and Kashmir: In a tragic event, a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district resulted in the deaths of at least ten pilgrims and left many others injured. Officials reported that a bus carrying the pilgrims lost control and fell into a gorge after being targeted by terrorists.

The incident occurred as the bus was en route to the Shiv Khori cave temple. Terrorists opened fire on the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and plunge into the gorge, resulting in at least 33 injuries.

Vishesh Mahajan, the District Magistrate of Reasi, confirmed the casualties, stating, “Nine pilgrims have died and 33 are injured.” However, another report indicated that ten people were killed in the attack.

A survivor recounted the horrifying ordeal, describing how 25 to 30 bullets were fired at the bus before it plummeted into the ditch. An eyewitness mentioned seeing a masked attacker with a red muffler shooting at the vehicle.

In a statement on Facebook, Reasi Police reported: “Today, a group of terrorists attacked a yatri bus coming from the Ransoo area of District Reasi. Due to the attack, the driver of the bus lost control, and the bus fell into the deep gorge near the Kanda area of Pouni Reasi. Nine people are feared dead, and the rest injured. The rescue operation was completed at the earliest, and the injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals.”

Following the attack, senior officers and other security forces rushed to the scene. The area was promptly cordoned off, and a search operation has been launched to apprehend the attackers.

According to media reports, Pakistan-backed The Resistance Front (TRF) has claimed responsibility for the terror attack. In a message, the TRF warned of more such attacks on “tourists and non-locals,” calling the Reasi attack only the “beginning of a renewed start.”

A massive search operation has been launched to trace the terrorists. Security has been strengthened in the area, with Home Ministry sources informing India Today that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been tasked with probing the attack.
