Ranchi: Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote joint research, academic exchanges and innovation.
The agreement was signed by BIT Mesra Vice-Chancellor Prof. Indranil Manna and IIT Kanpur Director Prof. Manindra Agrawal. It can be extended by mutual consent.
The partnership will facilitate student and faculty exchanges, joint supervision of Master’s and PhD scholars, internships, joint academic programmes and access to specialised research facilities. Both institutions will also collaborate on research projects and seek funding from national and international agencies.
Under the MoU, students will get opportunities to participate in joint research, laboratory visits, workshops, seminars and short-term training programmes. The agreement also provides for faculty development, staff training and joint organisation of academic courses, conferences and consultancy activities.
Welcoming the initiative, Prof. Indranil Manna said the partnership would strengthen research capabilities, encourage innovation and create new academic opportunities. He added that such institutional collaborations would contribute to India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The collaboration will be implemented through designated coordinators from both institutions, with Dr. Raju Poddar, Dean of Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, leading the coordination from BIT Mesra.
