Congress endorses Rahul Gandhi as Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition

New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) unanimously recommended Rahul Gandhi as Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition.

Congress leaders suggested Rahul Gandhi as Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) in a meeting after the camp had a good bounce back in the recent legislative elections.

The Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) meets for the first time after the poll results, raising clamor.

Congress leader Veerappa Moily remarked, “We need to address several topics, including how the Congress and India won so many votes and seats. Of course, we should have won and made Rahul Gandhi Prime Minister. We missed it.

But currently, Narendra Modi is not that fantastic; he has lost popularity and vote share. I believe we are progressing, and if not today, the Congress under Rahul Gandhi must return tomorrow.”

Congressman Manickam Tagore said on X, “I solicited votes for Rahul Gandhi. I suggest he be Congress Lok Sabha leader. I hope elected Congress MPs agree. Watch how Congress Parliamentary Party decides. Our party is Democratic.”

Shashi Tharoor told PTI, “He and Congress president (Mallikarjun) Kharge campaigned nationwide, but Kharge leads the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, therefore Rahul Gandhi should do the same in the Lok Sabha. I’ve expressed my opinion publicly and personally.”

“I think we have a strong number now to stand up to the government and it (Leader of Opposition) should be a leader who is undoubtedly the most popular in the party.”

Revanth Reddy of Telangana remarked, “Like 140 crore Indians, I also want Rahul Gandhi-ji to take the position of Leader of Opposition because he took the responsibility of raising people’s voice against the Modi government.”

Congress gained 99 seats, more than needed, to elect an Opposition leader after 10 years.

Rahul Gandhi won Lok Sabha elections in Kerala’s Wayanad and Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli.
