CSIR-NML hosts corporate training programme for CIPET officials

Jamshedpur: CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML) in Jamshedpur has commenced the highly anticipated “Exposure Training Program on Metallic Pipes, ETMP’23,” a five-day corporate training initiative aimed at officials from the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET).

This program, which began on September 11, 2023, has attracted ten participants representing nine different CIPET centers from across the nation, all eager to gain valuable insights into metallurgical research and cutting-edge facilities at CSIR-NML.

The primary objective of this training program is to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of various metallurgical aspects related to metallic pipes.

Beyond delving into the fundamentals of physical metallurgy for metallic pipes, the curriculum also encompasses in-depth exploration of topics such as mechanical properties, corrosion behavior, welding metallurgy, and relevant industry standards.

This knowledge will equip attendees with the tools to assess the quality of metallic pipes effectively in real-world scenarios.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with a warm welcome address from Dr Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, the Chief Scientist and Head of the Materials Engineering Division at CSIR-NML.

Dr Chowdhury underscored the program’s significance in the context of new product development, quality assessment, and overall plant site improvements. Subsequently, an introductory session facilitated interaction between participants and organizers, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

To conclude the inaugural event, Dr Snehashish Tripathy, Senior Scientist in the Materials Engineering Division and Technical Coordinator of the program, delivered a formal vote of thanks.

Spanning from September 11th to September 15th, this workshop encompasses a wide array of activities. Participants will progress from grasping fundamental theories to examining detailed case studies and engaging in practical demonstrations.

The ‘ETMP’23’ corporate training program at CSIR-NML promises to be an enriching experience, equipping CIPET officials with invaluable insights into the world of metallic pipes and metallurgical research.
