Hajipur: East Central Railway (ECR) has posted an impressive financial performance in the first quarter (April–June) of the 2026-27 financial year, recording gross earnings of nearly ₹8,000 crore, driven by robust growth in passenger traffic, freight operations, and non-fare revenue streams.
According to ECR, around 6.65 crore passengers began their journeys from stations under its jurisdiction during the quarter. Passenger earnings climbed to ₹1,438 crore, registering a 14.44% year-on-year increase.
Revenue from PRS (Passenger Reservation System) services rose by 11.39% to ₹924 crore, while non-PRS earnings witnessed an even stronger 20.37% growth, reaching ₹514 crore.
The railway also reported exceptional gains in ancillary income. Parking revenue surged by 86.41% to ₹12.62 crore, while non-fare revenue increased by 26.28%, rising from ₹5.09 crore to ₹6.55 crore. Earnings from catering services also improved by 5.08%, touching ₹8.68 crore during the quarter.
Ticket-checking drives also yielded encouraging results. ECR detected 10.50 lakh ticket-checking cases, up 6.35% from 9.87 lakh cases in the corresponding period last year. These enforcement efforts resulted in a record ₹73 crore in recoveries, reflecting a 15.11% increase over the same quarter of the previous financial year.
The strong first-quarter performance highlights East Central Railway’s sustained focus on improving operational efficiency, enhancing passenger services, and boosting revenue through diversified income sources.
