Parliament session from 31 January, budget on 1 February

budgetThe budget session of Parliament will start on 31 January and the business done during it, and the quality of the budget presented, will influence the government’s ability to regain control of the economic narrative in the wake of the demonetisation exercise.

It will also have a bearing on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ability to influence the political narrative ahead of key state elections.

The Union budget itself, the first one which will subsume the railway budget, is to be presented on 1 February. The Economic Survey for 2016-17, the annual economic report card, will be presented to Parliament on the first day of the budget session.
