Ranchi: In a proactive move to curb the transportation of illegal cash, police teams in three districts have seized a total of Rs 47 lakh ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
In Giridih district, a special team intercepted vehicles in the Nimiaghat and Dhanwar police station areas, seizing Rs 30.91 lakh in cash. This operation was part of the district’s efforts to prevent the illegal flow of cash during the election period.
Latehar district saw a similar crackdown, with the Superintendent of Police, Anjani Anjan, directing an intensive vehicle checking campaign across all police station areas. During one such campaign near the Murgidih police camp in the Barwadih police station area, undisclosed amounts of cash were seized.
In Bokaro district, the Flying Squad Team (FST) recovered Rs 5.50 lakh during a routine vehicle check under the Jaridih police station. Sub-Inspector Ashok Singh and Magistrate Kamlesh Kumar Singh discovered Rs 5.65 lakh in cash during a check of a car (JH03AM-1077) belonging to Ravindra Kumar Singh, a resident of Aurangabad, Bihar.
Upon interrogation, Ravindra Kumar Singh claimed to be a railway contractor but failed to provide any documentation for the seized amount. Police station in-charge Radheshyam Prasad confirmed the seizure and stated that Singh is currently being questioned regarding the source of the cash.
The police reiterated their commitment to enforcing the model code of conduct and conducting thorough checks to prevent the illegal use of money in the upcoming elections.
