Dhanbad: In a commendable initiative aimed at fostering women’s education, Prakash Foundation, in collaboration with ACIC IIT (ISM) Foundation, extended a helping hand to meritorious girl students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The program, titled “The 13th Awareness & Awarding of Scholarship Program,” unfolded at the Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre (GJLT) of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, where 26 Class 11th (Science) students received scholarships worth Rs 3000 each along with a smartphone to facilitate their participation in online classes.
Moreover, 24 Class 12th Science students, who had previously received scholarships for two years, were also provided with financial assistance amounting to Rs 3000 each. Prof. Rajni Singh, Dean Corporate Communications of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor and handed over the scholarship cheques alongside other distinguished guests, including Professor PS Rao of the Department of Mathematics and Computing, Dr. Akansha Sinha, Chief Executive Officer of Atal Community Innovation Centre (ACIC) IIT (ISM) Foundation, and Camelia Chaudhary, Manager, ACIC IIT (ISM) Foundation.
Rameshwar Prasad, a retired Mechanical Engineer of ACC Sindri and founder president of Prakash Foundation, shared insights into the program, emphasizing its annual commitment to supporting meritorious girl students pursuing science education. Prasad elaborated on the selection criteria, stating that applicants must have secured at least 85% marks in Class X and enrolled in the Science stream for Class XI.
Prasad highlighted the foundation’s holistic support, covering coaching classes for medical and engineering entrance exams, facilitated through enrollment at the foundation’s expense.
Additionally, to ensure seamless participation in online classes, students are equipped with smartphones. Prasad underscored the continuity of support throughout the students’ academic journey, with Rs 3000 provided for both Class 11th and 12th.
Since its inception in 2012, the initiative has garnered support from Indian women professionals, particularly those residing abroad, including the USA. Prasad shared anecdotes of success from the program’s early years, noting that several scholarship recipients had secured admissions in prestigious engineering colleges.
Furthermore, Prakash Foundation extends additional support to financially challenged students through the Foundation for Excellence, offering scholarships worth Rs 50,000 annually to those whose parents’ annual income is less than Rs 1.5 lakh.
This comprehensive approach underscores the foundation’s commitment to empowering young women and breaking barriers to education.
