Bokaro: Two internationally renowned shahnai players Sanjeev and Ashwani Shankar sons of the internationally acclaimed shehnai exponent Pandit Daya Shankar mesmerized thousands of students of DPS Bokaro at its school campus.
This programme was held under the banner of SPICMACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth) in DPS Bokaro on Wednesday here at Bharat Muni Kala Bhawan.
The duo brothers belong to the Banaras Gharana started with a prayer composed by Pt. Ravi Shankar followed by Raag “Megh” with bandish in “Madhyalay” and “Druthlaya” in classical Hindustani music. The artists played the tunes of ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ which mesmerised the audience. The children also sang along with the tune ‘Raghupati Raghav…’. Sanjeev & Ashwani Shankar was accompanied by Nimesh Rathore (DPS Bokaro faculty) on Tabla.
Banaras Gharana where playing shehnai and flute is a tradition of 450 years. Sanjeev & Ashwani were privileged to take lessons of Shehnai from their grandfather, the legendary Shehnai player Pt. Anant Lal. From stage performances to music festivals, their performances have touched hearts and received immense appreciation.
Vice Principal, P Shailaja Jaykumar felicitated the artists. She expressed her gratitude towards SPICMACAY for the upliftment of Indian music and the cultural plethora. She thanked the artists for their wonderful performance. During the occasion, Headmistress Sunita Bhardwaj and teachers along with the students enjoyed the programme.
