New Delhi: The Congress re-elected Sonia Gandhi as the chairperson of Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP). The meeting was attended by the 52 newly-elected Lok Sabha members of the Congress along with its Rajya Sabha members in the central hall of Parliament.
Sonia, who represents Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli in Lok Sabha, is the chairperson of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA). Addressing the CPP meeting, Sonia thanked “12.13 Cr voters for reposing faith in the Congress Party”, tweeted Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi also addressed the meeting and reminded Congress members that they are, “fighting for the Constitution, for every person in India irrespective of the color of his skin or belief,” tweeted Surjewala.
The MPs also chalked out the party’s strategy for the upcoming session of Parliament.
This was the first official meeting that Congress president Rahul Gandhi attended after the meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) held on May 25, where he offered to quit as Congress chief.
The CWC had rejected his offer to resign and unanimously passed a resolution authorising him to bring structural changes in the party at all levels in a bid to revamp it.
