Prof. Sukumar Mishra become new Director of IIT-ISM, Dhanbad

Dhanbad: Professor Sukumar Mishra has assumed the role of Director at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, effective May 15, 2024. He succeeds Professor J.K. Pattanayak from the Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering, who has been serving as the Officiating Director since July 1, 2023.

Upon assuming office, Professor Mishra convened a meeting with all institute deans at the administrative building’s conference hall. During the meeting, the deans presented on the institute’s ongoing and upcoming initiatives. Later in the evening, Professor Mishra held a meeting with all Institute Officers, chaired by Registrar Prabodh Pandey.

Professor Mishra is widely recognized for his contributions to electrical engineering research and administration. He previously served as the Dean of Research and External Engagement at the IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi Campus and as the Associate Dean for Research and Development. He is an active member of the IEEE Delhi Executive Committee and has been extensively engaged in various capacities. His research primarily focuses on Power Systems, Power Quality, Renewable Energy, and Smart Grids.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Professor Mishra has provided consultancy services to Tata Power and Microtek. He is also the founder of Silov Solutions Private Limited, a company that specializes in the sale of bidirectional electric vehicle supply equipment, AC and DC-based EV chargers, grid-connected solar inverters, smart DC home management systems, and online UPS for household and commercial use.

Throughout his career, Professor Mishra has received several prestigious awards, including the Orissa Bigyan Academy Young Scientist Award (1999), INSA Medal for Young Scientist (2002), INAE Young Engineer Award (2002), and INAE Silver Jubilee Young Engineer Award (2012). He is a member of various professional organizations such as IET (U.K.), IETE (India), and IE (India), and has been honored with fellowships from INAE-SERB DST Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship, NASI (India), and INAE (India).
