New Delhi: ISRO Chairman and Secretary of the Department of Space, Dr. V. Narayanan, revealed that ten dedicated satellites are operating round-the-clock to ensure India’s national security. Speaking at the 5th Convocation of Central Agricultural University in Imphal, held at the College of Fisheries in Agartala, Dr. Narayanan emphasized the critical role of space technology in safeguarding the nation, particularly along its 7,000 km coastline.
He underlined that without the support of satellite and drone technologies, significant advancements in security and development would be impossible. Apart from strategic defense, ISRO’s satellite network also supports vital sectors such as agriculture, telemedicine, education, weather forecasting, environment, and food security.
Highlighting India’s growing global footprint in space, Dr. Narayanan noted that India ranks number one in nine key space sectors and was the first to discover water molecules on the Moon through the Chandrayaan-1 mission. He also mentioned that India has successfully launched 433 satellites for 34 countries, showcasing its emergence as a major player in the global space arena.
Reflecting on India’s journey from having no space capabilities in 1975 to now being a global leader, Dr. Narayanan expressed confidence that by the time India marks 100 years of independence, it will excel across all fields of space technology.
In a move to inspire young minds, ISRO will invite 100 science students from each of the eight northeastern states to visit its Bengaluru centre. The initiative aims to promote space awareness and foster innovation among the youth, while ISRO continues to support developmental projects across the Northeast region.
