India, Pakistan DGMOs to Review Ceasefire at Noon Amid Rising Tensions

New Delhi: Top military officials from India and Pakistan are set to hold crucial talks on Monday to assess the ceasefire understanding reached over the weekend. The Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations will convene via hotline at 12 noon to review the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border, following days of heightened military activity.

The ceasefire agreement, announced on Saturday, came in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor — a large-scale Indian military offensive targeting terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation was launched in retaliation to the deadly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 tourists.

Ahead of the DGMO-level dialogue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level security meeting with the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The meeting underscored India’s strategic response posture in the wake of recent developments.

Prime Minister Modi reportedly conveyed to U.S. Vice President JD Vance that India will respond with increased force to any further provocation from Pakistan. The United States, under the Trump administration, has claimed a role in mediating the ceasefire; however, Indian officials clarified that the request for a ceasefire was initiated by Pakistan on May 10.

In a significant announcement on Sunday, the Indian Army confirmed that over 100 terrorists were neutralized during Operation Sindoor. Among the deceased were high-profile militants Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudasir Ahmed — all linked to the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 and the 2019 Pulwama attack.

Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai, India’s DGMO, described the operation as a decisive strike against the infrastructure and masterminds of terrorism. “Our aim was to eliminate the perpetrators and destroy their support networks. Operation Sindoor fulfilled that objective,” he stated during a press briefing.

Despite the ceasefire agreement, Pakistan reportedly breached the truce just hours later, initiating unprovoked firing at multiple points along the LoC during the night.
