This development comes shortly after a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, which ended nearly 88 hours of intense fighting. On May 10, the two countries reached an understanding to halt military actions, marking a significant de-escalation of one of the most dangerous confrontations in recent decades.
However, the ceasefire has been tested by continued violations from Pakistan, which led to a stern response from India. As the situation remained tense on the evening of May 10, India issued a strong warning, underscoring its preparedness to retaliate against further provocations.
Meanwhile, in response to the military de-escalation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level security meeting on Sunday with key government officials, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and all three service chiefs also participated in the discussions.
At the meeting, the Indian government reiterated its concerns over Pakistan’s violation of the ceasefire terms, urging Islamabad to take “appropriate steps” to address these breaches. India stressed that Pakistan must deal with the situation with “seriousness and responsibility” to prevent further escalation.
Despite the ceasefire, tensions remain high, particularly in border areas, where residents continue to face uncertainty after days of intense shelling and drone activity. As the situation stabilizes, there are still concerns about the potential for further flare-ups along the Line of Control.
