Around 35-40 Pakistan Army soldiers killed at LoC

New Delhi: In a major escalation along the Indo-Pakistan border, the Indian Army has confirmed the elimination of over 100 terrorists in precision strikes launched under Operation Sindoor. The announcement was made during a press briefing on Saturday by Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), who revealed that Indian forces conducted coordinated attacks on nine terror hubs across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
Among those neutralized were high-value operatives Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudasir Ahmed, all of whom were linked to the 1999 IC814 hijacking and the 2019 Pulwama suicide bombing.
Lt. Gen. Ghai described Operation Sindoor as a “meticulously planned military campaign” with a clear objective to dismantle terror infrastructure and punish the masterminds. He said Indian forces carried out a “microscopic scarring” of the terror ecosystem, striking camps and training sites with precision to avoid collateral damage.
A decision was taken to strike where it would hurt and towards that in a swift, coordinated, calibrated attack, we stuck air bases, command centers, military infrastructure, air defence systems across the entire Western Front.

Ceasefire Proposal and Violation
The DGMO also disclosed that he had communicated with his Pakistani counterpart, who initially proposed a ceasefire, leading to a temporary agreement effective from 5 PM on Saturday. However, within hours, Pakistan breached the truce with cross-border firing and drone intrusions across the Line of Control (LoC).
Indian authorities responded with a strong warning, emphasizing that any further violations would be met with fierce and punitive counteraction. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has granted full operational authority to field commanders to respond decisively to any breach of the understanding.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the ceasefire violations late Saturday night, stating that India had urged Pakistan to act responsibly and curb further provocations.
‘No Less Than a War’
Lt. Gen. Ghai characterized the past few days’ developments as being “no less than a war,” citing direct air force engagements and coordinated infiltration attempts.
“Under normal circumstances, the air forces of neighboring countries do not engage in mutual targeting,” Ghai said. “But these recent actions—especially infiltration attempts across the LoC—appear to involve direct Pakistani Army support.”
Air and Naval Operations
Air Marshal A.K. Bharti, Director General of Air Operations, detailed the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) strategic involvement. Airstrikes targeted key terror camps in Bahawalpur and Muridke, using precision-guided munitions to minimize civilian impact. Pakistani aircraft attempting incursions were intercepted, and several were downed, though the exact count remains undisclosed.
On May 7, Pakistani drones flooded Indian airspace, targeting civilian areas and military bases. These included Jammu, Udhampur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Bathinda, Dalhousie, and Jaisalmer. All drone threats were successfully neutralized.
In retaliation, India targeted radar installations in Lahore and Gujranwala and later struck Pakistani air bases, command centers, and air defense systems across the western front. These actions were described as part of a calibrated response to send a clear message against aggression.
Pakistani Casualties and LoC Engagement
Between May 7 and 10, India reported the deaths of approximately 35–40 Pakistani military personnel in artillery and small-arms engagements along the LoC. The Indian Armed Forces confirmed that no major damage was sustained on Indian soil due to robust air defense preparedness.
Naval Deterrence
Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod, Director General of Naval Operations, stated that the Indian Navy remains forward-deployed in the Northern Arabian Sea, maintaining a decisive deterrent posture. He said this presence forced Pakistan’s naval and air units into a defensive state, with many confined to coastal zones and harbors. The Navy continues to monitor all activity and stands ready for a strategic strike if necessary.
Tribute to the Fallen
Lt. Gen. Ghai also paid tribute to the five armed forces personnel and civilians who lost their lives during Operation Sindoor, reaffirming India’s commitment to national security and counterterrorism.
